Stefi Mitova, CEDaR doctoral student affiliate, delivers PhD defense

Doctoral student 厂迟别蹿颈听惭颈迟辞惫补 successfully defended her听dissertation, 鈥淚ntegrating Electric Vehicles and Solar Photovoltaics into Smart Cities with Smart Charging and Storage: Energy, Economic, and Environmental Impact Analysis Using Systems Engineering Methods.鈥
Mitova鈥檚 research investigates charging听individually听owned and shared electric vehicles with smart charging, solar energy, storage听and the grid. Her听research methodologically bridges environmental science, systems engineering, economics听and machine learning. She was advised by Brian Muller, CEDaR director.
"These are dynamic models that simulate complex electricity systems under various optimization objectives," she says. "The results听show that smart charging can be successfully implemented to build networks of interconnected electric vehicles, solar panels, smart home devices and charging stations. These systems can save a significant amount of money, emissions, and energy."
Mitova says that she has听been in the field of sustainability for 13 years and has听always been fascinated by smart energy systems, AI, and technology. She听is looking towards being employed in the energy sector.
